Institute of Environmental Sciences, Engineering and Management (IESEM) is located and part of the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City (IUH). Their main strategies are (i) research collaboration with international and national partners, (ii) collaborating with companies in testing and developing products, and (iii) providing training and education.

During the online discussion, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hung Anh – Director of IESEM, has mentioned the impacts of climate change in the South of Vietnam, especially in the Mekong River Delta (MRD). Regardless of solutions to adapt to climate change, the rapid impacts of climate change in this area are happing faster.

Thus, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hung Anh highlighted four main paths that the water and environmental sector in Vietnam in general and IESEM, in particular, would like to collaborate with Finnish parties, which are:

  • Building an observatory for drought and saltwater intrusion in MRD and the Central Highlands of Vietnam.
  • Developing saltwater filtration technologies which are suitable for small population clusters and large population clusters. Applying smart app to optimize system operation, control water loss and save costs.
  • Developing technological solutions for storing and filtering rainwater for domestic use.
  • Training human resources for localities in the field of water supply.

UPDATE AFTER THE ONLINE DISCUSSION:

IESEM is proposing the project of Viet-Fin Consulting and Training Center on water engineering simulation. The commercial centre will be part of IUH, which will provide human resources in the water sectors and develop solutions for Ho Chi Minh City and MRD. They are now looking to reach out to more Finnish organizations to discuss together in this project. The estimated investment for this proposal is 1,450,000 EUR. The project is planned to start in 2023.
